Roadside sellers in Cape town. |
The drive was really nice. Soon after leaving Cape Town the roads became very quiet and opened up with beautiful scenery all around. We went past many different types of countryside, but mountains always seemed to be ever present to the sides in the background. Eri also took a go at driving, but after about 45 kilometres gave the car back to me.I guess it was easier for me as nothing was different, drive on the left and sit on the right.
We stopped off in a place called Swellendam en route and found a nice country cottage restaurant called 'Sabines' www.sabinesdrostdyrestaurant.webs.com. It was a very idyllic setting at the foot of the mountains and it reminded me a lot of Brecon in Wales. We both had a nice salad served in a filo pastry bowl.

After leaving, we decided to go a bit further than Mossel bay and put a few kilometres on so that we had less to travel the next day. We decided to stop at Sedgefield, which is just before Knysna. We found a room in a guest house called gardenbird www.gardenbird.co.za/index.htm.
Ann, the owner showed us a nice room with a fully fitted kitchen, a separate bedroom, a separate bathroom and living room with settee and satellite TV. When I nervously asked how much for the night, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the room was only 350 rand. Less than £35.... Very cheap....
After stocking up at the local supermarket, we then spent the evening on the veranda enjoying a bottle of South African Merlot and a packet of Braai flavoured crisps. Bedtime quickly followed about 20:30.. Such party animals lol.........
